The anti-nepotism ordinance was passed in a 5-1 vote on Tuesday evening, with the lone Democratic councilwoman MariaElena Bellinger casting the sole dissenting vote. Previously, Bellinger had questioned the motivation and timing of the ordinance by the rest of the council.
The ordinance bans the hiring and promotion of relatives of elected officials. Officials would also be forbidden to vote on promotions for already hired relatives.
A mayor’s son getting hired for police (or fire)? That would never happen here in Ridgewood!

You know what is an old saying you don’t shit where you eat, why would you want to bring your whole family into the town where you’re the mayor. Spread out, it’s not healthy having that many family members working at the same place. I don’t care anybody says. If a civil service maybe and I mean maybe they fall some of the rules in the police department and find apartment, but for the rest of the town they don’t follow social service rules they don’t give two shits. And that’s the problem
