Big Changes in Paramus: Fire Department and Rescue Squad Unite
Paramus NJ, Paramus residents and emergency service volunteers take note: the structure of the Borough’s emergency response team is changing. Mayor Christopher DiPiazza and the Borough Council have officially announced the merger of the Paramus Fire Department and the Paramus Rescue Squad into a single, unified organization.
Effective December 1st, the separate title of “Rescue Squad” will be removed from the Borough Code, formalizing the consolidation under the Fire Department’s umbrella.
One Team, Enhanced Capabilities
This organizational shift is designed to streamline operations and enhance the quality of emergency services delivered to the community. The consolidated entity aims to ensure a more cohesive and coordinated response across all types of emergencies.
The dedicated volunteers of the former Rescue Squad—including paramedics, EMTs, and firefighters—will continue their vital work as a combined force. Crucially, the day-to-day operations and commitment of these civil servants will remain unchanged, simply operating under the name and unified structure of the Fire Department.
“The approval of this ordinance signifies a commitment to modernizing our emergency services,” said Mayor DiPiazza. “By combining these teams, we are investing in a more efficient, better-equipped future for Paramus safety.”
Focus on Growth, Training, and Equipment
The merger is expected to propel the Department’s growth by pooling resources for high-quality training and equipment acquisition. This proactive step by Mayor DiPiazza and the Council is aimed at providing the combined team with the most advanced resources to handle any emergency situation that arises in Paramus.
For Paramus residents, this change means a unified front of highly trained professionals responding to your calls, whether they require firefighting expertise or specialized medical rescue.
