Paramus NJ, A sizable car gathering swelled to over 1,000 vehicles on Sunday morning before authorities intervened, according to officials.
The gathering, known as a meetup where car enthusiasts showcase their vehicles, took shape at Paramus Towne Square and the Raymour & Flanigan parking lot off Route 17 shortly before 10 a.m. on Sunday. As it occurred on a Sunday, the stores were closed due to Bergen County’s blue laws, which mandate the closure of retail establishments in the county on Sundays, leaving the lot empty.
This unsanctioned event resulted in significant traffic congestion along Route 17 north, prompting a response from Police Chief Robert Guidetti.
“In response to the situation, all available patrol units were dispatched to the scene to address the congestion and ensure public safety,” he stated.
Police units from neighboring towns, such as Rochelle Park and Maywood, as well as the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, were also called to the scene.
It took approximately ninety minutes to disperse the vehicles, and multiple summonses were issued for violations of traffic laws, Guidetti confirmed.

So, in response to ‘too many cars’ police departments from 3+ jurisdictions sent every available car they had. You think 17 was any more congested than it normally was? Car enthusiasts whose primary concern is showing off their vehicles are probably more careful to make sure those vehicles aren’t damaged by driving like the usual a-holes you find along 17. And you know what endangers public safety, Guidetti? When dozens of dudes with guns show up to a party uninvited.
No permit the town didn’t make and money
Ahhh, right. Forgot about how every aspect of life has to be commercialized.
Give me a break. Stores r closed…big open parking lot. Nice for others to stop in and view the cars.
Would you like that in your town?
I’d love to see a picture of that rabble….
You’d think Boyd would have shot a roll of pictures on this action????
