Paramus NJ, a Tuesday evening emergency call ended in a dramatic scene in Bergen County after a Paramus police cruiser collided with a civilian vehicle, leaving one car overturned and two people hospitalized.
Emergency Response Leads to High-Impact Collision
The incident occurred around 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. According to Paramus Police Chief Robert Guidetti, an officer was in the process of responding to an urgent report of an emotionally disturbed person.
While traveling eastbound on Ridgewood Avenue near Highland Avenue, the officer’s vehicle struck a 2021 Toyota Highlander. The force of the impact was significant enough to flip the Highlander onto its roof.
Injuries and Hospitalization
The driver of the Toyota, a 62-year-old woman from Washington Township, was trapped briefly in the overturned SUV. Emergency responders arrived quickly to provide aid. Both the officer involved and the female driver were transported to The Valley Hospital.
“Both drivers are being treated for pain and non-life-threatening injuries,” stated Chief Guidetti.
Investigation Underway
The intersection was closed for several hours as the Paramus Police Detectives and the department’s Crash Investigation Unit processed the scene. As of Wednesday morning, no citations have been issued, and the investigation into the exact cause of the collision remains ongoing.
