Move over, Five-Star hotels. New Jersey has a new “coolest” destination, and it’s located right on a suburban lawn in Paramus

Paramus NJ, what started as a New Year’s Day project between Michelle Zakko, a first-grade teacher at Midland Elementary School, and her 14-year-old son, Nicholas, has melted the hearts of the local community. Using 150 plastic shoe bins to mold custom ice blocks and fresh snow as mortar, the duo constructed a 4-foot-tall, 6-foot-wide artisanal igloo.

Despite temperatures climbing into the 40s, this frozen feat of engineering is still standing. To celebrate their handiwork, the Zakkos have given the structure a hilarious “luxury real estate” makeover.

The Listing: A “Luxury” Winter Retreat

Welcome to the Paramus Luxury Ice Suite. Nestled conveniently between the front porch and the neighbor’s property line, this handcrafted, open-concept studio offers the kind of winter experience you didn’t know you needed (and probably didn’t ask for).

Built block-by-block with locally sourced New Jersey ice, this suite boasts solid walls, frosty vibes, and acoustics specifically tuned for whispering, “Why are we doing this?”

Room Specifications

  • Capacity: Sleeps 1–2 brave souls.

  • Climate Control: Maintained at a crisp 20–30°F for that authentic “frozen tundra” energy.

  • Bedding: Custom-contoured snow-drift mattresses with complimentary “snow memory foam.”

Exclusive Amenities

  • 360° Ice Walls: Privacy meets transparency.

  • Natural Insulation: Science-backed (mostly).

  • Zero Connectivity: No Wi-Fi, but 100% signal for deep inner reflection.

  • Eco-Friendly Plumbing: Authentic outdoor facilities.

The “Fine Print” for Guests

Before you book your $389-a-night stay at this cold-weather retreat, make sure you can follow the “House Rules”:

  1. Strict No-Fire Policy: For obvious, structural reasons.

  2. Liability: Guests accept full responsibility for cold toes and frozen noses.

  3. Check-out: Must occur strictly before the spring thaw (or a heavy rainstorm).

While you can’t actually book this on Airbnb, the Zakko family’s creativity has turned a standard New Jersey winter into a neighborhood landmark. It’s a testament to what a little “cool” thinking and 150 shoe boxes can achieve.
