HOBOKEN, NJ – The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced that the Hoboken PATH station will be closed from 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, through 5 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, for urgent repairs to its interlocking and track system. The closure comes as crews work to fix mechanical failures that have disrupted service in recent weeks.
Why the Closure Is Needed
The interlocking system, which allows PATH trains to switch tracks and access different platforms, was replaced earlier this year but has since suffered from design issues. Emergency fixes allowed limited service, but long-term repairs require newly fabricated parts and extensive testing. The Port Authority said the work is necessary to restore reliable and more frequent service during peak commuting hours.
Alternate Travel Options for Riders
To ease disruptions, PATH and its partners are offering several alternatives for riders:
-

The Port Authority emphasized that safety and reliability are the top priorities and vowed to hold contractors accountable for the interlocking’s design failures. By scheduling the work over Labor Day weekend, the agency hopes to minimize the impact during a typically lower-ridership period.
