Philadelphia Fugitive Wanted for Shooting School Resource Officer Arrested in Paramus

PARAMUS, NJ — July 7, 2025 — A Philadelphia man on the run after allegedly shooting a school resource officer last week was arrested in Paramus on July 5, authorities confirmed.

Paramus Police Chief Robert M. Guidetti announced that Ariza Giansteban, 29, was apprehended after the Philadelphia Police Department alerted local law enforcement that the suspect may have been en route to New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus.

Coordinated Arrest with No Incidents

Thanks to a collaborative effort between the Paramus Police Department, Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, and New Bridge Medical Center security, Giansteban was located and arrested without incident.

Key officers involved in the arrest included:

  • Sergeant Anthony Mordaga (Paramus PD)

  • Officer Vinny LaBarbiera (Paramus PD)

  • Sheriff’s Officer Patrick Doyle (Bergen County Sheriff’s Office)

Giansteban was taken into custody and transported to the Bergen County Jail, where he is currently awaiting extradition back to Philadelphia.

Alleged Involvement in Road Rage Shooting

According to Philadelphia authorities, Giansteban is accused of shooting a 68-year-old school resource officer during a road rage incident on June 30, 2025. The shooting sparked an intense manhunt, leading investigators to track his potential movements to New Jersey.

The victim’s condition has not been publicly updated, and the motive behind the altercation remains under investigation.

Strong Interagency Coordination Praised

Chief Guidetti commended the swift response and teamwork between agencies:

“Thanks to the excellent coordination between our department, New Bridge Medical Center security, and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, this dangerous fugitive was taken into custody safely and efficiently,” he said in the official statement.

Ongoing Investigation

The investigation into the shooting is still active, and further details may be released pending Giansteban’s extradition and formal charges in Philadelphia.
