RIDGEWOOD, NJ — The thin blue line in Ridgewood just got a little stronger. On Friday, December 19, 2025, the Bergen County Police Academy held its milestone graduation ceremony for Police Class #135. Among the sea of new recruits were three familiar faces who will now call the Ridgewood Police Department home: Officers John Riker, Brian Skettini, and David DeNicola.

From the Academy to the Avenues

Graduating from the Bergen County Police Academy is no small feat. Class #135 underwent months of rigorous physical training, firearms proficiency, emergency medical response, and intensive legal education at the academy’s Mahwah campus.

With their academy training complete, Officers Riker, Skettini, and DeNicola are moving directly into the Ridgewood Police Field Training Program. During this phase, they will be paired with veteran officers to apply their skills in real-world scenarios across the village, from the busy central business district to residential neighborhoods.

What’s Next for Ridgewood’s Newest Officers?

While they have completed the academy, their official introduction to the community is just beginning. Residents can look forward to:

  • Field Training: Several months of “on-the-job” instruction to ensure they meet the high standards of the Ridgewood PD.

  • Public Swearing-In: A formal ceremony will take place during an upcoming Village Council Meeting, where the officers will take their public oath of office in front of family, friends, and village officials.

  • Community Engagement: As part of Ridgewood’s commitment to community policing, these officers will soon be visible faces at local events and school safety programs.
