Electric Meter Identified as Fire’s Origin

The incident was first reported to 911 by a vigilant neighbor, alerting authorities to a fire on the exterior of a single-family home. Upon arrival, FLFD crews quickly isolated the blaze, which originated near the property’s electric meter.

Firefighters acted decisively to extinguish the flames before they could fully breach the structure. As a result, the damage was contained almost entirely to the exterior, with only minimal impact to the home’s interior. This successful stop is a true testament to the training and efficiency of the Fair Lawn volunteer fire companies.

Coordinated Emergency Response

The successful outcome was a result of a coordinated effort by multiple local agencies:

  • Fair Lawn Fire Department (FLFD): Quickly arrived on the scene and utilized techniques to knock down the fire, preventing vertical and horizontal spread.
  • Fair Lawn Police Department (FLPD): Secured the area and assisted with crowd and traffic control.
  • Fair Lawn Rescue Squad: Provided support and was on standby in case of any injuries.

The quick reporting by the neighbor and the immediate response by the FLPD and FLRS were instrumental in allowing the firefighters to bring the situation under control rapidly.

This incident serves as a crucial reminder to homeowners to regularly inspect exterior electrical components and practice vigilance in their neighborhoods.
