The Newsweek “Best Hospitals” is a SUBJECTIVE OPINION poll
.
It is basically a popularity contest and is useless as an indicator of the quality of a hospital.
.
From Newsweek’s own website regarding the methodology used:
(they even call the list a “survey” – not an analysis)
.
Hospital Evaluation Based on three data sources:
.
SOURCE 1 (WEIGHT 55%) Hospital Recommendations from Peers
(1) Original question:
If the hospital you work for cannot accept a patient for medical treatment (e. g. due to capacity limits, geographical distance, insurance reasons), would
there be one or more other hospitals in your country that you would recommend for the patient based exclusively on quality and service?
(2) Original question:
Based on quality and service, are there one or more international hospitals (in another country) that you would recommend?
.
SOURCE 2 (WEIGHT 15%) Patient Experience
(1) For most of the countries data from existing patient surveys was collected.
(2) Patient surveys are typically conducted by insurance companies among patients after hospitalization
(3) Examples of survey topics:
– General satisfaction with hospital
– Recommendation of hospital
– Satisfaction with medical care
– Satisfaction with service and organization
.
SOURCE 3 (WEIGHT 30%) Medical KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)
Key performance indicators on hospitals from a variety of public sources were collected for most of the countries
• The KPIs differ between the countries. Examples of included data:
-Data on quality of care for specific treatments
-Data on hygiene measures and patient safety
-Data on number of patients per doctors / nurse
It’s quite obvious that you hate valley.
Let me guess, you’re an abutter?
No worries, they are moving to a nice new facility , but don’t expect that current building to be demolished so you can have another soccer field.
Valley has always provided my family with first class care.
I was never a proponent of the proposed expansion, but since they got chased out of town you better hope and pray they don’t turn that building into affordable housing or a half way house for drug abusers
I would be interested to know how many heart, kidney, liver, and lung transplants Valley has successfully performed. Is it a center of excellence for cancer treatments? Is Valley’s emergency room designated a level I trauma center? My care there to date has been good, expensive but good. I am just not sure that it is on the same playing field as Duke, UPMC, Hopkins, and other larger medical systems. It is, by many measures a good hospital. But, best? For the record, I am glad it is here in Ridgewood. As a community, we are just not that good at soccer….
re: “It’s quite obvious that you hate valley.”
.
I have made NO COMMENT on the quality of Valley hospital.
.
I just pointed out the QUALITY of the award.
The award is useless as an indicator of the quality of any hospital. Its only use is as a vehicle to sell magazines and as a marketing tool for hospitals.
.
I suggest you look at the methodology of ANY award or ranking to see how much weight you should place on the results.
.
It seems to me that you, not I have a bias.
You make yourself look foolish when you make assumptions and jump to conclusions.
