Reader says Do we really need a parking garage, or just some common sense?
Our Mayor always talks about how short the Village is on parking, but yet someone at Village Hall approved blocking off four (4) spaces at the train station for a long term construction project? Duh?
Of course we need a short and long term parking garage… !!!
It should be near the post office, in front of the Ridgewood News Bldg. and include some other use possibilities. How ???
Select a qualified designer and get the damn bldg. started !!!
“Now and Then” – Who is paying for it? I don’t want my tax dollars spent on it, and I don’t want the town to be on the hook for guarantees when it isn’t profitable enough to pay off the bonds.
Totally agree with #2.
Answer – we need parking AND common sense. Unfortunately with the team we have running the show, we’re unlikely to get either.
Until the Village seizes the agenda from the developers, we will be in a state of continuous reaction. Developers want to build huge buildings because they make more money that way. Certain citizens are not in favor of huge buildings. Developers then say that if they can’t build a huge building then they won’t build anything. Then other citizens say that the town is is disrepair and we need to do something so let’s just build the huge buildings because what other choice do we have?
Come to think of it, I’d settle for some common sense and will drive around the block looking for a spot in the meantime.
A parking bldg. with multi uses would be considered if we could see some designs to satisfy most everyone.
Can our readers here see and/or submit some samples for consideration? We might be surprised.
“Now and Then” – It isn’t the look that is the biggest concern, it is the finances. An architect can design a handsome structure – is it financially sound? Answer – NO That is why private sector hasn’t come forward to build one without government guarantees.
We need one of these:

And a Monorail. Because if Shelbyville can have one, we should too.
I’ve never had a problem parking and walking in the Village. It may take me a couple of minutes to find a spot but since I know that already, it’s not a problem. The economics of a parking garage just don’t work for your downtown. It’s been looked at already.
Park at graydon, RHS, GW when the lots aren’t being used.
Let the chamber of commerce pay for a free shuttle bus for shoppers.
Problem solved.
Sure we need a parking garage where else are they going to hang the bronze plaque with the THREE AMIGOS name on it so they can be memorialize forever as the saviors of this village.
The Three Amigos need a parking garage so the can fulfill the election promises to the Chamber and Developer. The only problem is that it our money they are going to spend to get that plaque on the wall.
Every single study conducted by planning professionals over the past 50 years has recognized the need for a parking garage in the CBD. Let’s just get it done !!
yes, employees should park at those lots and be shuttled in. Of course there is a parking problem…half the stores in town are empty and still most of the spots are filled. To get new businesses we need more parking or they won’t even consider coming here.
Wish we could finally focus on issues of actual importance.
You’re full of shit. The last study performed listed several other steps that should be taken.
