” Hated Paul’s giant garage, don’t think at this point we need the smaller version but most of all I hate taking trees and green space no matter how small for more for extra spaces at the Train Station which will not make a difference in the end and will cost commuters an arm and a leg. Also agree with the post about over regulation in the CBD. If anything is going to hurt the downtown businesses it will be this. I almost feel like first come first served would be a better plan and open up the streets with free parking. It has been done on other town “
Why did they leave the four mature trees at the south end of the lot? Surely there would have been room for more spaces after cutting THEM down too. What about the evergreen on the entrance? Two more annual parking passes to sell on that space! Maybe take down the flag pole — looks like a few more commuter punishing annual passes could be sold on that land. So many missed revenue opportunities.
I am so glad this comment is given a major posting. Because that is what Jane Goodall advocates. Each of us should preserve our green spaces and woods and wet lands and little wild spaces in our own yards.
I am very disappointed in the town council on what they did with Schedler, with the train station, and other spaces. Children should be taught about trees and woods and green spaces.
If they had been the kids would have said: Keep all of Schedler’s trees, especially the snags, vital for the preservation of life.
The council is trendy, not true. Big deal about plastic bags. They , all the past councils, laughed and snickered if you mentioned not allowing plastic bags in past years.
That looks like a street in Phoenix AZ…
It’s too bad they didn’t build a parking garage at the train station. Or how about behind Village hall easily go two maybe three stories for parking decks.
When i was a child in grammar school, we all used to practice cowering under our desks in anticipation of catastrophic incidents like this and the other ills this council is plaguing us with.
cutting down a tree makes you cower under a table?
The Infamous bike lane is really prominent in the accompanying picture. It is rarely used by bikers( too dangerous), has compromised safe turns from Broad Street and West Ridgewood Avenue and unless it is completely removed and 2 lanes restored under the bridge going to the west side, the apartment complex going up at the old Ken Smith Motors site will create serious concerns at that intersection which is already bad enough.
Don’t start cutting the trees down…. They are ALL THAT REMAINS of the good old Ridgewood.
.
Long gone are all of Ridgewood’s other unique and desirable qualities…
gone is the premier education;
gone is the right leaning sensibilities;
gone is the attractive, robust and welcoming downtown;
gone is the civility;
gone is the non-partisan, common sense government.
.
All that remains are the “lovely trees” and the “tradition” of excellence…
So please… Don’t cut down the trees… they are the ony “real” things that remain in Ridgewood.
.
RE: “I hate taking trees and green space no matter how small…”
.
Just curious… what is your position on taking a human life, no matter how small or how long in the womb?
.
I get the feeling you have a much stronger pro-tree position…
.
What’s happening is depressing. Cutting decade old trees for the idiocy (this falls on Knudsen) of making space for compact cars (why???) when a multilevel garage is being built. In general RW has a lot less tress than 2-3 years ago. Streets in horrible conditions like never seen before. A very hard line between those who still long for Aronsohn versus those who side with anyone else but Aronsohn (but in the process vote same mediocre type of people). Downtown a complete mess. Construction sites that can only promise monster size buildings. Majority of residents who don’t give a sh!t about the major changes and the new wave of residents that are coming. Schools on the decline and Ridgwewood ranked 105th in best towns to live in NJ. So on and so forth………….it is not getting better and it won’t. It is very sad but it is happening. People will get used to the new reality and won’t feel “LUCKY” to be in Ridgewood anymore. A lot of snowflakes though think RW is paradise for the simple reason that they have only seen NYC boroughs and this new town (RW) that a friend recommended for the schools. I hope they keep coming because they are the only reason that keeps real estate going.
To clarify my post, I referenced taking down trees for more parking. This will be the 3rd or 4th reconfiguration of the parking area at the Train Station. Each time was the last time. This time will be the last time as there will be nothing left to take away. Before moving to Ridgewood, I lived in Manhatten and Brooklyn. Pocket parks made it livable for those of us who liked sitting outside occasionally. Having a tree outside your building was a selling point. If we had redesigned the lots on Hudson Street years ago, put in a garage on Franklin( Town Garage site) and made better use of our other lots in town , we would be in far better shape than we are now.
Mike sedon…. Such accomplishments with shade tree… Considering all the trees in RW and not just your little tree wells that failed in the CBD, net net we have far less trees than when you started.
The original commenter clearly coopted the most famous phrase from Horton Hears a Who!, a 1954 children’s book by Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel), i.e.: A person’s a person, no matter how small.
Geisel had toured post-WWII Japan and was moved by the plight of desperate children there to pen the Horton book.
Geisel was a supporter of Planned Parenthood and thus was a member in good standing with the culture of death. Geisel also specifically claimed that he never had any intention to convey a pro-life message by penning “Horton”.
Nonetheless his message and the book does support the pro-life position. Moreover, Horton is an elephant, the symbol of the Republican party.
So there’s that.
Wasn’t there some dopey proposed ordinance a few years ago prohibiting residents from cutting trees down on their private property
in summary
towns falling apart, roadways , irresponsible projects as with the butchery of the train
station ..all bad money after good…greed move by the VC who could not manage a Sunday picnic or reasonable schedule of maintenance or street cleaning…A FACT.
photo is the crusifiction of the prominent Train station as visitors drive by the see the
hanging of the villages sanity for a few more VIP MINI COOPERS parking stalls at insanely highest possible parking rates for NON RESIDENTS AS WELL.ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY NOW..WELCOME TO MONTCLAIR.
That’s exactly what they’re doing. Montclair 2.0 is in the making. Next thing on the table will be a performing arts center. This VC is on par with Aronsohn era. They took the baton from the 3 amigos and are running real fast with it. Run Ramon run.
Above photograph of the lynching tree should be on any
alternate candidates political handouts..Stop the insanity
we need different leadership..let’s clean house
