Reader says more restaurants are building walls on the sidewalk in the Village

Just noticed that the restaurant next to It’s Greek to me has installed a fencing along the street on village sidewalk property which is bolted into the sidewalk pavers and cemented in place. Maybe he got permission from Paul next door. Wonder if he got a permit??

  1. Is this legal i believe not.

  2. The last thing I want to see is local business owners investing their own money into making the CBD aesthetically pleasing. The got-damn place is starting to look like Greenwhich! Next thing you know there will be office parks full of hedge funds paying people lots of money to work right here in town! The horror…the horror.

  3. I think I know why these fences or walls, while aesthetically pleasing, can’t be allowed to proliferate in town.

Wouldn’t they get in the way of fire equipment in the case of an emergency?

    1. That is a great point. Safety.

  4. I was required to obtain a permit to put a fence on my residential property. whats the deal here? Wall/fence/ wtf?

  5. If all the restaurants build these walls it will look like a mess. They are building rent free dining rooms.

Maybe the town could establish a “look” for these walls. Stop them before they build at will.

I agree with the comment above. I got permits for a fence and everything else that I did on my private property. They should get approval for building on taxpayer property.

  6. How do I get out of my car and get onto the sidewalk if there are barriers between my car and the sidewalk? Do I walk down the avenue along a row of cars until I come to a shop that hasn’t constructed a barrier yet?

Definatetly a safety issue with respect to access.

  7. Snow removal?
