Reader says new route  keeps him from stopping and shopping

Love the fact that they are now going to do a traffic study after they have already impeded traffic and people have already adjusted their habits and started using other roads. Only in Ridgewood.

By the way, my new route takes me up Bellair Road where there are some lovely houses. Beats the heck out of looking at all the empty lots, parked trucks and construction equipment at Ken Smith’s and sitting at the lights in downtown Ridgewood. Also keeps me from stopping and shopping. So, win/win for me. Probably not so good for the retailers.

traffic calming – traffic calming – traffic calming – traffic calming

keep repeating this mantra until you too are brainwashed into thinking that automobiles are the root of all evil and must be stopped

  1. The writer is correct. I am no longer travelling down Franklin Ave to get from east to west and vice-versa. I am going down Glen Ave so the traffic study that is now being proposed is inherently flawed. It won’t capture those of us who are already avoiding the area.

  2. So far i have no problem traveling on Franklin but i do believe once this is finished it will create more problems than it solves.

  3. Really? It isn’t the much greater congestion at the Lincoln/Godwin/Ackerman/S Monroe cluster**** that makes you take Bellair?

  4. what the hell is going on. this should of bin done by now. now it looks like shit. we all hope this will be done befor july 4th.

  5. I don’t know where that term traffic calming came from. Many drivers are aggressive occasionally but don’t think it’s prevalent in Ridgewood. How bout trying the GSP, Rte 4 or entrance to Lincoln Tunnel in the rush hour?
Every civil official has their data etc but the only dangerous existing situation is the complete lack of enforcement by the RPD for the rarely obeyed right on red at the two underpass corners. The manager seems oblivious to this. Just simply put a a reminder sign! The new danger is bicyclists getting crushed in the left lane bend if this is where they appear to be placing it. What bicyclist wants to ride in the left lane?? Heck, it’s just an underpass used to drive across town. Some towns can’t afford to fill potholes.

  6. Just started patronizing a pizza place in Midland Park. Plenty of parking.

  7. Not a chance–it will take all summer. Village Manager said at Wed.’s council meeting that it would be more or less cleaned up for the parade but not “photo op ready” or some such thing. It will, in fact, look dreadful.

  8. Its like putting lipstick on a pig.

  9. Original idea!!!!! Close some lanes leading to the GW Bridge and see if people feel calmer.
