Reader Says the Village of Ridgewood is more than just and upscale suburb of New York City

Ridgewood isn’t made up of only those people who work in NYC and just happen to live in Ridgewood. If that were the case, everything that makes The Village an upscale location to live in wouldn’t exist.

The Village of Ridgewood today is a testament to the hard work and dedication of all the people who have lived, worked, worshipped and volunteered in the Village to provide the lifestyle enjoyed by the residents.

Some of these residents still have ties going back to the original settlers. Others have ties going back just a few generations. Their bond with the Village of Ridgewood has nothing to do with NYC.

  1. That’s over.

  2. Maybe if I had grown up here and it was all I knew, I would share the widely held but parochial viewpoint regarding how great it is. It’s a nice town; but by no means one of a kind. Proximity to Manhattan is a definite plus, as is the CBD. Some people need to get over themselves.

Summit, Chatham, Millburn, Bedminster, Bernardsville, Rumson, Holmdel, Morristown, etc…all great towns in NJ.

  3. A lot of navel gazing in this town. I did not grow up here either and I think that some people need to look around a little more. There are a lot of great places to live.

  4. At one time, this WAS a premiere town to live in.

However over the years it has been diluted.

All of the people who made Ridgewood, “Ridgewood” have long since moved out.

Sure, a small minority of people of that caliber remain in town today. However, for the most part, now we only have posers and wannabes moving in to try and clothe themselves in “Ridgewood prestige”, but like the proverbial emperor they don’t realize that they are only wearing the “tradition” of excellence, since the actual excellence is in the character and quality of the people… who have long since moved on.

It’s kind of like paying top buck for a plastic Gucci handbag covered in ugly advertising logos and thinking you’ve got a quality item when what you have actually purchased is a foreign sweatshop produced plastic piece of garbage wrapped in a prestigious name…

  5. I liked it a lot better in the good old days.
