Reader says What we don’t like is only having two choices – overbuilt versus falling down
You seem to suffer from the same affliction as the 2 Council people in question. No, we don’t prefer dilapidated properties – nobody does and nobody has advanced that opinion. What we don’t like is only having two choices – overbuilt versus falling down.
As for “my proposals”, that’s not my job. I’m not a developer nor am I a land use attorney. I am a tax payer and a voter. When it appears as though certain of our elected officials have focused on a single, over sized solution and then bristle when their constituents disagree with them, I have a right and an obligation to call them on it.
We deserve better. Support the CBR and attend as many meetings as you can. Put a sign on your lawn if you want. Speak up now because Mr. Pucciarelli and Mrs. Hauck are rubbing elbows with these developers as you read this.
We already have falling down, that’s covered by the old Town Garage, Brogan Cadillac, Ken Smith Chevrolet, and all of the old auto repair shops on North Maple in to Ho-Ho-Kus. So it’s great you have a sign on your lawn, but does that mean you’re in favor of our declining CBD ? Or will you actually volunteer on the PB or HP committees and work to help turn around our decaying downtown ? Lawn signs are passive aggressive, it takes no effort on your part. Put your time where your mouth is and help turn around the declining fortunes of our CBD.
#1 – There he is, the deputy mayor weighing in. How do you get any work done, Mr. Pooch, with as much time as you spend running defense on the blog?
The party of “just say no” clearly expresses what they do not want, however none have offered any suggestions what they DO want. What is your vision ?
My vision is a town without people like the Deputy Mayor.
If landlords have empty lots or empty storefronts and are unhappy about it, they might lower the rent or sell.
I find it interesting that Council apologists assume that anyone that disagrees with them is lazy and ignorant. After all, we didn’t run for Council ourselves and we don’t serve on the Planning Board so therefore all we must do is put signs on our lawn and complain.
The fact is, people that take issue with our elected officials tend to be activists and serial volunteers. We tend to take enough time to formulate an educated opinion on the issues that face our town. We also tend to act on those opinions by attending meetings, participating in the process and yes, posting here.
#4 That is my vision, too.
I do not see how housing development will help business. It will benefit the developers and burden the infrastructure.
Housing is not the answer to CBD problems. The way to draw people into town is to have a good product. May e the arts venu will draw people into town. Personally I am not looking for a specific type of business to bring me into town. I usually go in for dinner.
