Reader suggests Roberts Rules of Order a good read for the Village Council

Hey there Mr. Mayor you chair the meetings. Surely you are well-versed in Roberts Rules of Order. As such, you know that part of Roberts Rules reads as follows: “Avoid all personalities. Never allude to another person by name or to motives.” Under points of order it reads, ” Infraction of the rules or decorum in speaking must be raised immediately after the error is made.”

So do you mind telling the citizens of Ridgewood why you allowed TWO of your elected comrades to speak so nastily and dismissively to Councilwoman Knudsen? Why didn’t you rein them in, or at least reprimand them immediately and publicly ? Some leader you are. You certainly have no regard for civility.

Al and Gwenn were completely uncivil to Susan, in different ways. Al, by not being able to control himself and say to Susan, “it’s not all about you, don’t flatter yourself”. Gwenn was uncivil by gushing over the data that Tom had provided and inferring it was a waste of his time. Wasn’t he just doing his job? Isn’t that data important so the council members can vote having actual facts? Susan always delves further to get the whole picture before voting. I may not always agree with her, but I am confident she never votes without having the facts.

  1. Rules do not apply to the three amigos. They and VM make up as they go along.

  2. I have no problem watching and hearing Council members quarrel a little or a lot. At least the public is watching and make up its on mind if its fair or not — and then comment at the final public comment session at end of evening on ( camera ) .

  3. I have a BIG problem with unnecessary nastiness such as Albert, Gwenn, and also Paul at times are known to display. Disagreeing is fine. Discussing is fine. Point-counterpoint is fine. But this nasty tone that the three of them set is unacceptable and unproductive. It is inappropriate and it completely distracts from the agenda item being discussed. The three of them will never change their spots no matter how loudly they proclaim CIVILITY and no matter how many civility forums they host. They are the worst.

  4. How about the Mayor cutting Lorraine Reynolds the second the timer rang, even though other speakers went much longer. How about when he delayed a man from speaking so Paul could schmooze the girl scouts, making it look like the man’s comments would be a big annoying interruption to the fun proceedings of the evening. Aronsohn does not make biting comments like his two amigos, but he is passively aggressive all the time, in subtle but definite ways.

  5. All will eventually be gone, thank god. It would also be a plus if they moved out of town.
