Franklin Lakes NJ, on Tuesday, Thomas Manzo, a resident of Franklin Lakes and owner of The Brownstone banquet hall in Paterson, was found guilty for his involvement in the assault on the new husband of his ex-wife, “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star Dina Cantin.

Details of the Case

Manzo had been on trial for two and a half weeks, accused of directing an alleged mafia member to assault Cantin’s then-boyfriend. The suspected mob member, John Perna, received a free wedding reception at The Brownstone in 2015 as payment for the attack. Perna pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 30 months in prison, being released in August 2023 according to federal records.

Manzo faced several charges, including committing a violent crime in aid of racketeering, conspiracy to commit a violent crime resulting in serious bodily injury, and falsifying and concealing documents related to a federal investigation.

Statements from Officials

“Thomas Manzo hired a soldier in the Lucchese Crime Family to carry out a vicious assault on his ex-wife’s then-boyfriend, causing the victim to suffer significant injuries,” stated U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger. He emphasized that Manzo will face “just punishment for his crimes.”

FBI agent in charge, James E. Dennehy, highlighted the gravity of Manzo’s actions, noting that the case’s details resembled a plot from a TV crime drama. “But the evidence and testimony presented in court prove it was reality,” Dennehy said. “We truly hope the victims in this investigation are able to move on with their lives and forget about Manzo and his criminal mafia bedfellows.”

Upcoming Sentencing

Manzo’s sentencing is scheduled for October 15. He faces a potentially lengthy federal prison term, reflecting the serious nature of his crimes. As the legal process concludes, the hope is that those affected can find closure and move forward from this troubling chapter.
