Newark NJ, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is preparing for a record-breaking Labor Day travel rush, with more than 6.6 million passengers and drivers expected across its airports, bridges, and tunnels from Thursday, August 28 through Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
Officials estimate:

2.4 million passengers will pass through John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International, LaGuardia, and New York Stewart airports – the highest Labor Day travel volume on record, up 1% from 2024.

4.2 million vehicles will use Port Authority bridges and tunnels, consistent with last year’s levels.
Heavier Traffic, Longer Wait Times Expected at Airports
Travelers are urged to plan ahead and allow extra time, as construction projects at JFK and high passenger volumes may cause delays.

Domestic travelers should arrive at least 2 hours before departure.

International travelers should arrive 3 hours in advance.
The Port Authority is suspending all non-emergency repair work at bridges and tunnels from 5 a.m. Friday, August 29 through 5 a.m. Tuesday, September 2 to ease congestion.
PATH & Hoboken Station Closure
Commuters should note:

The Hoboken PATH Station will be closed from Thursday, Aug. 28 at 11:59 p.m. through Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 5:00 a.m. for critical repairs.

PATH service will run on a modified Saturday schedule on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1.

AirTrain JFK & Ground Transportation Updates
To encourage transit use amid heavy traffic:

The AirTrain JFK single-ride fare is reduced to $4.25 through Thursday, Sept. 4.

For-hire vehicle pickup locations at JFK Terminals 4, 5, and 7 have been relocated.

Terminal 4: Free shuttle bus to Lot 66.
