Remove Ice & Snow Before You Go
Remember to remove all ice and snow from your vehicle before driving, especially from the hood, windows and roof. It’s the law in New Jersey! Motorists who fail to do so face fines of $25 to $75 for each offense, regardless of whether the ice and snow is dislodged from the vehicle. If flying ice or snow causes property damage or injury to others, motorists face fines of $200 to $1,000 for each offense. There are approximately 500 fatalities in the United States per year due to icy road conditions.
I’d love to see this strictly enforced especially on rt 17
Hell, I’d be happy if people would shovel their sidewalks…hard to believe that some folks live near schools and don’t bother to clean the walkway.
As long as the Ridgewood police don’t enforce clearing car roofs, cleaning snow off sidewalks, or people who blow snow into the streets, there will be a lot of non compliance.
It’s free money! I’m not sure why RPD wouldn’t just put a cop on the corner of Franklin and Broad and write tickets all morning after a snowstorm. They’d get at least 20 SUV owners who are too lazy / inconsiderate to clear their roofs.
the sidewalk problem would be easy to solve. after 24 hours anyone can shovel that sidewalk and charge the homeowner $20 for a regular sidewalk and $30 for a corner lot. You would have kids and/or landscaping crews coming through to pick up the work and invoice the homeowners. Problem solved without wasting village resources.
It’s unfortunate our inconsiderate new residents don’t give a shit about anyone except themselves,.
The issues of cars with snow still on them and uncleared sidewalks is definitely not isolated to new residents and SUVs. There are people who have been here all their lives and they never shovel their sidewalks. Why do they do this? Because they know compliance isn’t enforced.
“I’m not sure why RPD wouldn’t just put a cop on the corner of Franklin and Broad and write tickets all morning after a snowstorm.” Right and then you residents would complain that the cops have nothing to do but give Ridgewood residents tickets,
