River Edge NJ, History is coming to life in River Edge! Due to the recent storm, the Bergen County Historical Society (BCHS) has rescheduled its highly anticipated Washington’s Birthday Celebration.
Join us on Sunday, March 8, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm at a site actually visited by General George Washington during the Revolutionary War. Whether you are a history buff, a dance lover, or looking for a unique family outing, this event offers an immersive step back into the 18th century.
Experience 18th-Century Music & Dance
Step inside the State Historic 1752 Steuben House for a captivating performance by the Tricorne Dance Ensemble. Under the direction of Denise Piccino, the ensemble will present a celebratory program of song and dance dedicated to General Washington.

Performance Times: 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm.

The Music: Enjoy live accompaniment by Ridley and Anne Enslow on the fiddle and hammered dulcimer.

Note: Space is limited for these intimate performances inside one of NJ’s most iconic historic homes!
Exhibits & Historic Tours
Explore the rich heritage of the Jersey Dutch through tours of three historic sandstone homes. Inside the Steuben House, don’t miss:

Food & Shopping: Stop by the gift shop and enjoy seasonal refreshments available for purchase inside the tavern.

Parking & Transit: Free on-site parking is available. Alternatively, take the NJ Transit Pascack Valley Line to the “New Bridge Landing” station.

Pet Policy: Leashed dogs are welcome on the grounds but are not permitted inside the historic houses.
Pro-Tip: Due to recent snowmelt, the ground is currently very wet. We strongly suggest wearing waterproof footwear to enjoy the outdoor portions of the site comfortably.
