Surprise! Some of Ridgewood’s most satisfying fine-dining fare can now be found in a place that calls itself a tavern.
The Park West Tavern is a place where you can expect more that just a bucket of Buffalo wings with your beer.
OK, maybe it’s not a total surprise. When Park West Tavern opened three years ago, serving up its flavorful burgers with house-made ketchup, it was clear that it was not your average bar. The owners, who are also behind the well-regarded Park Steakhouse in Park Ridge, thought Ridgewood needed a restaurant with an upscale but still laid-back atmosphere, a benchmark bar and a familiar American menu with chef touches: I rated it 2.5 stars.

I personally will not go back to Park West Tavern due to an incident where our used ketchup/pickle jars was reused at a different table once the waiter took it off ours. It was out first time there and we didn’t receive any utensils to use to scoop the pickles or ketchup, so we used our forks we used for our entrees. As a ketchup lover, I was using the ketchup jar to use for my fries and were double dipping never thinking they would reuse the sauce. When we were done with our dinner, the waiter took our ketchup and pickles and gave it straight to another table which requested additional. We looked for a manager to report this incident but were told by the host she would alert him, but being late for a movie we weren’t able to see if the issue was addressed.
Unless you like your fries with guys screaming at sports on TV on the side, FORGET IT.
I have had some great meals there. Fish tacos are fabulous.
Lots of our neighbors are there on the weekend so there are always people to mingle with.
