After each high school graduation, there are celebrations and summer barbecues. There are also goodbye parties.
Some residents move out of the village after their children graduate. Longtime resident Dom Nizza, however, vowed to ‘never move again’ after coming to Ridgewood.
After 20 years in Ridgewood, Mike Marchlik, who with his wife, JoAnn, raised four children in the Ridgewood school system, is moving to the Atlanta area this weekend.
This past June, Tim Marchlik was the family’s third child to graduate from Ridgewood High School (RHS). Even though his youngest son Sam was still attending Somerville, a career opportunity prompted the early move for Marchlik.

Now you did it, I wondered why the phone kept ringing and the ladies were asking me to go dancing.
Interesting photo of my dance partner was Miss Bergen County in the Atlantic City contest for Miss America… oh well, time marches on.
Thanks, guys..
Recent articles in the papers highlight the fact that many boomers have not saved enough for retirement. Ridgewood is not a place for people on a fixed income. I will not be paying 30k in property taxes in retirement, but I will be living near my friends. There are a lot of great places to live.
Replace “Ridgewood” with “Bergen County” and you have it right. Taxes are too high. You’re either paying for someone else’s kids’ educations, municipal government “friends and family” patronage mills, or both. Taxes alone are roughly $1k a month.
Nobody in their right mind would settle for that. Sorry Dom Nizza.
Unfortunately, I’m among those that won’t be retiring here. I’m not in a palace but when I get to retirement time (soon) I can’t be forking out 2k a month in taxes (they’ll be at that level by then). At least we continue to get an influx of young families so Ridgewood will continue to be Ridgewood. As for you, Mr Nizza, I think it’s great that you can retire here and enjoy life. More power to you. and great photo!
