RIDGEWOOD — On Friday night, the old Bank of America building on East Ridgewood Avenue will be transformed into a nightclub — the setting for a private affair being organized for a select group of VIPs.

For the second year in a row, velvet ropes will pop up outside a Ridgewood landmark and inside, dozens of developmentally disabled adults from around the region will dance, party and laugh the night away.

The event — dubbed Club LOU Tonight — is the brainchild of Matthew Mandeli, a Ridgewood High School junior inspired by the work of his mother, Gail, with Life Opportunities Unlimited, a non-profit that manages group homes for developmentally disabled adults.

  1. We already had a nightclub for developmentally disabled adults. It was called Blend, and it shut down.

Seriously though, this is cool, and I hope those folks have a great time.

  2. Does the owner of this building have a CO permitting its use as a rental catering venue?

This question was asked at a recent Village Council meeting but never answered.

  3. What a great idea. Good for John Saraceno to allow the building to be used for a great cause and congratulations to the restaurants and others who are providing food and beverages. And what a wonderful example of an RHS student thinking about others less fortunate then most. I hope everyone has a great time. Would be cool for the Ridgewood Police to have a presence, helping with traffic and crowd control. Make it feel like a big red carpet event.

  4. #2 I agree. Where is the CO. Its a Bank not a catering hall.
If someone gets hurt at one of these events the Village could be liable.
But I guess the Council could care less. They do whatever they want.
Like using the NFL brand and getting fined $10,000.

  5. Did they really get fined $10K for the Superbowl party?

  6. Ask the Mayor.

  7. I think there needs to be real clarity on this supposed fine. As tax payers we need to know the truth!

  8. Its nice of the building owner to allow this to be at the building.
I still do not support apartments at his proposed site at the old Sealfons.
    Thanks anyway.

  9. Did the taxpayers cough up 10 k to the NFL. For real? Did Mayor Aronsohn comment on this?

  10. Another ploy by Johnny Boy to get on the good side of our Mayor and his causes. What the matter Johnny boy can’t play Ping Pong.

  11. What next?

  12. Where in the budget was this $10,000 taken from. Mr Mayor you need to
    comment.
