West orange NJ, the Ridgewood Maroons’ postseason magic continued Thursday night, as they claimed the North, Public sectional championship with a dominant 6-2 win over Randolph.
Coming off an epic comeback victory against Ramapo and a hard-fought win over Northern Highlands, Ridgewood avenged last year’s postseason loss to Randolph in spectacular fashion.
LoSauro Shines as Ridgewood Takes Command
⭐ Will LoSauro led the charge with a hat trick and an assist, playing a pivotal role in the Maroons’ championship win.
The scoring began early when Jack Sherman capitalized on a power play in the first period, giving Ridgewood a lead they would never surrender. LoSauro followed up with his first goal of the night, setting the tone for Ridgewood’s offensive dominance.
In the second period, LoSauro completed his hat trick, adding two more goals to put Ridgewood up 4-0 heading into the final frame.
Randolph’s Fightback Falls Short
Randolph refused to go down without a fight. Just 16 seconds into the third period, the Rams broke through Ridgewood goaltender Jack Scali, scoring their first goal of the game. Less than four minutes later, Randolph struck again, cutting the deficit to 4-2.
Despite heavy offensive pressure from Randolph, Scali stood tall, turning away shot after shot to protect Ridgewood’s lead.
Maroons Seal the Win with Empty Netters
With their season on the line, Randolph pulled their goalie in the final minutes in hopes of a last-minute comeback. However, Ridgewood capitalized on the empty net, securing the championship with two late goals.
🔥 LoSauro netted his fourth goal of the night with 90 seconds remaining, and Andrew Marotta added another empty-netter, sealing the 6-2 victory.
Jack Scali’s Heroics in Net
While Ridgewood’s offense shined, it was Jack Scali’s incredible performance in goal that ensured victory.
🛑 Scali recorded 47 saves, shutting down a Randolph offense that had averaged seven goals per game throughout the postseason. He kept the Rams scoreless for the first two periods, allowing Ridgewood to build a lead that proved insurmountable.
A Redemption Story for Ridgewood
Ridgewood’s win didn’t come without a scare. Last season, the Maroons had a three-goal lead against Randolph but ultimately fell short.
This time, head coach Lucchesi called a timeout after Randolph’s second goal, ensuring his team remained composed. The strategy paid off, as Ridgewood locked down defensively and finished the job.
What’s Next for the Maroons?
With the sectional championship secured, Ridgewood now turns its attention to the next challenge: competing for a state title. With momentum on their side and standout performances from LoSauro, Sherman, and Scali, the Maroons are poised to make a deep playoff run.
