Ridgewood, NJ – Fire Prevention Week wrapped up with a major victory for school safety in Ridgewood! The Ridgewood Fire Department concluded its annual timed fire drills across all public schools, celebrating the school that showed the most significant commitment to improvement and readiness.
And the winner of the coveted white fire helmet for “Most Improved” fire drill performance is… Orchard Elementary School!
A huge congratulations to the students, faculty, and staff at Orchard for demonstrating remarkable strides in their emergency preparedness over last year’s results. Their dedication ensures a safer environment for everyone when seconds count.
The White Helmet Tradition: A Mark of Excellence
The white fire helmet is a cherished symbol within the Ridgewood Public Schools system, recognizing the collective effort of a school community to prioritize and practice vital safety procedures. Earning this honor is a testament to the school’s commitment to continuous improvement in fire safety.
Principals Learn to Pull the Alarm
The celebration of fire safety extended beyond the drills. At the annual luncheon hosted by the Ridgewood Fire Department, which brings together school principals, presidents of the Home and School Associations, and members of the Ridgewood Public Schools administration, the focus remained sharp on readiness.
Orchard Elementary Principal, Mary Ferreri, demonstrated her school’s commitment by personally showing attendees how to properly operate a fire alarm box. This hands-on, educational moment underscored the importance of not only speedy evacuation but also of ensuring all key stakeholders understand the practical mechanics of the town’s safety systems.
The Ridgewood Fire Department thanks all participants for their engagement during Fire Prevention Week and encourages the entire community to maintain this high level of awareness and preparedness throughout the year. School safety is a collaborative effort, and Ridgewood is setting a high standard!
