Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood High School Marching Band remembers Neil Edara (RHS Band Alum) who recently unexpectedly passed away:
“Neil Edara (RHS Band Alum) passed away on July 24 at just 22 years old while pursuing his dream of becoming a trauma surgeon in the United States Army. Neil played the trumpet during his time at RHS. He was involved with the Marching Band, Brass Ensemble, the Symphonic Band and the Concert Band. He also went on to play the trumpet in the Rutgers University Marching Scarlet Knights.
To help celebrate Neil’s life and his impact within the RHS Band community, I reached out to Neil’s bandmates for some words about Neil.
Many of his friends in the band described Neil as the first person who made them feel at home. He welcomed them with humor, patience, and a big heart. He wasn’t just a bandmate—he was like a brother, a loyal friend who checked in, who reached out, and always encouraged others to keep going.
And Neil showed up—not just in spirit, but in the everyday work. He was on the scaffold crew for marching band, lifting and building the scaffold every single rehearsal. It wasn’t glamorous, but he did it with pride and brought lightness to the task, turning hard work into shared memories. A fellow trumpet section member said that he carried on traditions with humor and heart, making each moment matter for those around him.

One friend said, Neil had this quiet strength—he didn’t seek the spotlight, but somehow everyone just felt better, safer, and more grounded because he was there. He carried himself with the confidence of someone who was and would continue to be a strong leader, while also having the humility that he wasn’t going to bring up just how much effort it had taken for him to get to that point. “He was an inspiration to us all.”
Neil wore the uniform proudly, regardless of which uniform it was…Neil…please know that we will keep the light of the Ridgewood High School Band burning bright, just as you kept it during your time here. We can’t thank you enough for the memories, inspiration, and most of all, for being you.”
