Veteran coach leads team to undefeated season and back-to-back sectional titles

Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood High School’s Deirdre Tobin, head coach of the Boys Varsity Tennis Team, has been named Bergen County Boys Tennis Coach of the Year, following an extraordinary and historic 2025 season that culminated in Ridgewood’s first NJSIAA Group 4 State Championship title since 1968.
Coach Tobin, who previously led the team from 2003 to 2018, returned in 2024 and guided the team to its undefeated 14-0 record this season. Capturing the 2025 Bergen County Championship (with three flights also winning individual titles), repeating as NJSIAA North 1, Group 4 Sectional Champions, and winning the Group 4 State Title — a feat not achieved by the program in 57 years.
The team was also named Bergen County Tennis Team of the Year for the second consecutive season under her leadership. Most recently, the boys doubles team of Ethan Rosenberg and Ben Caradonna became Ridgewood’s first-ever state doubles champions in program history.
“This year has been incredibly special,” said Tobin. “Our players have worked hard, supported one another, and stayed focused every step of the way. It’s been an honor to coach them through such a historic season.”
In addition to coaching boys tennis, Tobin also leads the Girls Tennis and is an Assistant Coach for the Boys and Girls Swim Teams at Ridgewood High School. She brings decades of experience, mentorship, and passion to Ridgewood’s athletic programs and serves as a Physical Education Specialist at Ridge Elementary School.
Her commitment to student-athletes—both on and off the court—has made her an invaluable and deeply respected figure in the Ridgewood sports community.
