The Ridgewood News

Welcome to the February edition of the Mayor’s Corner – my monthly Ridgewood News column that aims to make village government more accessible, more transparent, more user-friendly.

Council agenda: The council will meet two more times in February – Feb. 19 and 26. On this month’s agenda are the 2014 budget, smoke-free school zones, committee appointments, the police department’s organizational size/composition and a host of other important issues.

Our meetings are open to the public and carried live online and on public access television. Residents are encouraged to attend and participate.

Snow, snow and more snow: This has been one of the whitest winters in recent memory. That makes for beautiful pictures, but it also makes for dangerous commutes, school closings and general inconveniences.

Keeping our streets cleaned — snow as well as leaves — is certainly not an exact science, and we don’t always get it right. But I can assure you that, under the leadership of John Spano, our guys have been working hard, sometimes around the clock, to plow and salt and clear the streets.

  1. And the Spin just keeps coming.

  2. Recall this self serving political person.

  3. Thanks James for sharing this report and column,

My paper delivery has been a little messed up…. and sharing news is helpful. Thanks… again.

  4. Especially the news you agree with. Right?

  5. yes the town workers have been working around the clock and doing a dam good job for being under staffed . this has been a cold winter. and all towns have been low with salt. it’s just not fare for any town to try to control the ice and snow with very little salt. we hop we all find out if it’s true with the stock pile of salt down at the met life yard.

  6. # 5 Cry me a river.

  7. If we don’t get more DPW workers I’m just going to SCREAM!

  8. Cronyism is partiality to long-standing friends, especially by appointing them to positions of authority, regardless of their qualifications. Hence, cronyism is contrary in practice and principle to meritocracy. Lets see who this Council appoints.

  9. # 5 what is up with you. talk about cry me a river is you . you need to move . you just don;t stop bitching about every thing. you hate this one , that one sucks, this place sucks, this is bull shit. my god you need a nice rest in bergen pines with big bubba.

  10. To complete the above. ” For Village Manage.

  11. A little off topic but. What would the Readers want the Village Council to look for when hiring the new Village Manager?

  12. I would like to see someone who is not affiliated with any member of the Council past or present.

  13. to # 7 you are sick.

  14. hey why do we have all the snow piles in the parking lots in the town. before we could not find any parking in the c b d. how come they are not being removed. is the town going to let them melt in the lots. what is the deal with ridgewood. not good.

  15. New Epa rules say you cant bring the snow to Graydon or kings pond and dump it to let it melt because the salt in the snow pollutes the brook and streams so it takes longer to get rid of now. Used to be Dpw would dump it at Graydon or kings cant do that anymore.

  16. The new VM should have some sort of financial background but more importantly a strong municipal of county background. Running a municipality is a complete different animal then the corporate world. Federal, state and county laws and reg. if not know will cost taxpayers if not followed. This position in not for “On the job training” Then you have Government employes labor law. These law and reg are not something you pick up in a few months.

WTF are you talking about? There are mounds and mounds of snow at Graydon.

  18. Yes and they want you to drop you Christmas tree off in the Graydon lot. Just where do we drop them?

  19. Recall these incompetent self serving three before they destroy the Village.

  20. they’re not supposed to dump there. the same thought goes into not dumping grass clippings at Lakeview drive because the chemicals from the grass gets into the stream.

  21. After looking at the picture of our Mayor attached to this post i asked myself ” Would I buy a used car from this guy” No.

  22. hey paul what is up with the snow piles in the parking lots of the c b d, we can not find parking. they did remove the snow at night, what happened to that. come on all lots are full.
