Ridgewood NJ, on Monday the Ridgewood School District offered an update on the condition of the school athletic fields .
“Last weekend’s storm brought nearly three additional inches of rain to our area, however, we are happy to be sharing a mostly positive status at this time. Although our fields did flood, the water receded quickly, and we do not anticipate any major setbacks to RHS’s Stadium. The field is currently being cleaned of any additional debris and silt, the GMAX test (for shock absorption) is complete, and we anticipate being on the stadium field as early as tomorrow. Stevens field will take a bit more time to clean, but we expect to be on that field as early as next week.
In addition, Village Fields are up and running, and Brookside field will remain closed for one more week as Ridgewood Water continues its work in and around the field. On Monday, March 25th, Somerville, Kenilworth, and Glen are closed for maintenance. On Tuesday, March 26th, Ridge, Travell, Willard, and Benjamin Franklin fields are closed for maintenance. By Wednesday, March 27th, most of our grass fields will be in service.
As shared previously, athletic director Keith Cook has scheduled backup plans, which are in place for the coming weeks. We are in regular contact with the coaches at these alternate locations, and plans and schedules will be shared with the coaches and teams as the need arises.
We will continue to share details as we approach what we hope is the grand re-opening for our spring season. Thank you for your support as we continue to navigate this year’s difficult weather pattern.”

Army Corps of Engineers on sick leave.
USACE needs authorization and appropriations via Congress to initiate flood control projects. Yes, they have some programmatic money for staff and basics but that isn’t going to get you much. And they (Congress and USACE) have priorties . . . don’t you think they might have other things they are working on. Ridgewood fields floods while other areas experience complete loss of their downtowns and and commercial area . Oh boy, our kids cant play LAX while other town lose all of their revenues and loose their homes. The solution is much larger than Ridgewood . . . it is a watershed management issue that will take years to address. Maybe our Planning Board folks want to consider handing out variences like they were Halloween candy?
And, for what it is worth, fields are almost always constructed in flood plains as they have no other responsible use.
