RIDGEWOOD, NJ — The Village Council of Ridgewood is inviting new residents to attend its latest “Coffee with the Council” event, raising eyebrows among longtime locals who wonder if the governing body is focused more on recruiting newcomers as allies than addressing ongoing village concerns.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at The Stable, and it replaces the date listed on the official Village Calendar. Attendees can enjoy coffee and refreshments while chatting with councilmembers in an informal setting.

The Village Clerk’s office is requesting RSVPs at 201-670-5500, ext. 2206.

A Platform for Questions — Or a PR Move?

While the council touts the gathering as a “wonderful opportunity” for new residents to ask questions and connect, some critics question whether the outreach is more about optics than substance, especially as Ridgewood faces persistent debates over traffic, development, and rising costs.

Whether it’s genuine community engagement or just a photo-op, the event will likely shed light on how the council intends to engage its growing population.

  1. don’t complain this council was overwhelmingly elected by the clueless

    1. Coffee with the Council…brought to you by Kensington Assisted Living.

  2. and Ridgewood used to be a nice town

  3. Loathsome.

  4. Maybe the people fighting various projects that are bad for Ridgewood, something the new residents’ tax dollars will support. They will wake up real fast upon learning about these things proposed and pushed for by this Mayor and this council. All part of the Vagianos Magical Mystery Tour.

    1. Is Scottie M invited to the coffee? Could be a great opportunity for him to wear his baseball uniform and start recruiting the next generation of top Ridgewood baseball prospects headed to the MLB.

  5. This is the SOP.

The law of PRIMACY applies here. i.e. that which is presented first is what takes.

This is why everybody tries to get to the new guy(s) first. They come as blank slates and believe what they are told, only becoming skeptics later on (if they have not been assimilated).

This is why you always have newcomers groups. It’s MORE than just a welcome…….

    1. But Mayor’s Standard operating procedure is shady shady shady. Oh, sure, he’s all smiles and chit. Chet, but once you see behind the veil, you see a very different story. And his standard operating procedure is to build and strengthen the business duatrict where he will directly benefit. There is no reason for a megastructure, senior living facility on a main thoroughfare, when hundreds of residents have come out to object, and he’s still probably going to approve it. And tell them he’s sorry. Many stated that they had voted for them and the other members of this council and now they are so disappointed with their choice. In leadership.

    2. What is wrong with newcomers?

  6. Who pays for the coffee and refreshments?

    1. Evan can float another bond. Its free money!

  7. This mayor council thinks they can do whatever they want. They don’t get two shits about any kind of law. And they’re using and controlling management do as I say not as I do. They are the puppets. No one‘s running their own department like years ago They don’t have control. They have the answer to up top. What a shame. Everything is a phone call, an email, can I, should I? What would you like me to do. Ridiculous

  8. There needs to be a better way to reach residents on this issue. There are people who are not on Facebook, who also live in other parts of town who see the signs but don’t know what is happening. Relying on Facebook to get information out only gets to a small group. Granted, this is a vocal group but if more support is needed, someone needs to put flyers in mailboxes, hand flyers out at train station in am/pm, etc. My neighbor who drive out of town avoiding the downtown streets have no idea what is happening.

  9. Of course they are. It makes the newbies feel special and then they lie lie lie to them

  10. Will the Mayor’s Trojan horse be parked outside Village Hall?

  11. Vagianos’ approval rating as a result of his lack of safety or having any common decency as a Mayor where Kensignton is concerned. Maybe he can try to snow the new people but they’ll find out soon enough.

  12. I’ll only go if Rurik is going.
