The 2013-2014 school budget with an $85 million tax levy has been approved by Ridgewood voters, meaning that most residents were in favor of school instruction that goes beyond state requirements, based on an unofficial tally by village officials on Tuesday night.
The unofficial tally after the polls closed was 1,206 votes in favor of the budget and 988 votes against, a margin of 55 percent in favor, 45 percent against. Superintendent of Business Angelo DeSimone noted that official results will be announced in coming days. Tuesday night’s results did not include absentee or provisional ballots, he said.
The voters’ approval translates to roughly a 2 percent increase in taxes. Residents with a home assessed at $700,000 – the average for the village – will see an increase of about $203 for the year.

I’m surprised that anyone bothered to vote…
Didn’t the Village Council disenfranchise the voters last time when the council approved a school budget that was defeated?
What is the point of voting if the village oligarchy can arbitrarily overrule the will of the people?
they take all the money.
