Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood is officially home to the best in the business. In a major win for our village, Parks & Recreation Director Nancy Bigos was recently honored as “New Jersey’s Recreation Professional of the Year.”
The prestigious award was presented at the NJRPA (New Jersey Recreation and Park Association) Annual Conference, recognizing Nancy’s career-long dedication to enhancing the quality of life for every Ridgewood resident.
A Legacy of Excellence in Ridgewood Recreation
If you’ve enjoyed a morning at the Community Center, a stroll under our lush canopy of shade trees, or a summer program with your kids, you’ve experienced Nancy’s handiwork.
The Ridgewood Village Manager’s office highlighted several key areas where Nancy’s leadership has been “second to none”:
-
Inclusive Programming: Bringing high-quality recreational activities to residents of all ages, from toddlers to seniors.
-
Park System Enhancements: Modernizing our local green spaces to ensure they remain the crown jewels of the village.
-
The Shade Tree Program: Maintaining the historic and environmental beauty of Ridgewood’s legendary tree-lined streets.
-
Community Center Growth: Transforming our shared spaces into vibrant hubs for connection and activity.
Why This Award Matters
The NJRPA Professional of the Year award isn’t just a trophy; it’s a validation of Ridgewood’s commitment to public spaces. Under Nancy’s guidance, Ridgewood has set the gold standard for how a New Jersey municipality should manage its parks and recreation departments.
As the Village Manager noted during the celebration: “Thank you Nan for your work to make Ridgewood even better. Well deserved.”

Nan.
NAN!
She has been MIA in the entire Schedler Park project. And didn’t we great that someone who works on her staff is the president at the state level. Maybe recreation IS her forte.
Gross.
All I can say is wow. She is actually the worst. in my eyes The parks look terrible all of them. What’s going on at schedler and now there is issues with twinneys. How is she honored for what seems like a mess ?
