Work continues this month on Ridgewood’s sustainable energy project, which in March was highlighted along with other New Jersey municipalities and utility boards for its electricity savings over the past two years.

According to the New Jersey Sustainable Energy Joint Meeting (NJSEM), the village racked up nearly $76,000 in electrical savings for 2011-12. Ridgewood’s total is the sixth highest amount of all Bergen municipalities to record reduced energy expenses with the NJSEM during that time frame.

Neighboring towns that also realized reduced energy costs as NJSEM members were Glen Rock ($21,653), Saddle River ($14,956) and Wyckoff ($36,525). Mahwah had the most of all county municipalities, earning more than $162,000 in savings.
