Oradell NJ, a terrifying incident in Oradell, New Jersey, on Sunday night has resulted in drunk driving charges for a Parsippany man and a major road closure that lasted six hours. The crash underscores the severe danger posed by impaired driving, especially when critical infrastructure is involved.
Oradell Police responded to a report around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Kinderkamack Road and Homestead Place.
The Crash Details: A Downed Utility Pole
Upon arrival, officers found a 29-year-old Parsippany resident, Raj Patel, who had crashed his 2022 BMW X5 into a utility pole. The impact was severe:
The vehicle smashed into a PSE&G utility pole, “destroying the pole and bringing down live power lines,” police noted.
While Police Chief David Gangemi clarified that power remained on for the area while repairs were made, the damage necessitated an extended operation by utility crews. Kinderkamack Road had to be closed for six hours as crews worked to safely repair the pole and restore full safety to the area.
Thankfully, no one was seriously injured in the crash.
Charges Filed and Police Warning
Raj Patel was taken into custody and has been formally charged with multiple offenses by the Oradell Police Department:
- Driving While Intoxicated (DWI)
- Refusal to Submit to Breath Testing
- Reckless Driving
- Failure to Maintain a Lane
Patel was released to await a mandatory appearance in municipal court.
The Oradell Police Department issued a stern reminder to the community: “The Oradell Police Department reminds all motorists to drive responsibly and never operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”
