Twp of Washington NJ, If you’re driving through the Township of Washington this December, you might feel like you’ve taken a wrong turn and ended up at the North Pole. Mountain Avenue, now affectionately known by locals as “Santa Lane,” has once again transformed into one of the most unique holiday spectacles in Bergen County.

What started as a quiet neighborhood tradition has exploded into a full-blown inflatable invasion, with dozens of oversized Santas lining the residential street, creating a whimsical “tunnel” of Saint Nicks that towers over cars and sidewalks.

🎅 The Legend of “Santa Lane”

Mountain Avenue isn’t your typical holiday light display. While other neighborhoods focus on synchronized music or classic white lights, the residents here have leaned into a specific, hilarious, and heartwarming theme: The Inflatable Santa.

  • The Scale: There are now dozens of Santas on display, with some reaching heights of 10 to 15 feet.

  • The Competition: What began years ago as a few neighbors joining in has turned into a friendly annual rivalry. Each year, homeowners try to out-count or out-size their neighbors, adding new and varied versions of Kris Kringle to their lawns.

  • The Atmosphere: The sheer density of red suits and white beards creates a “Santa Corridor” that has become a viral sensation on local NJ social media groups.

🚗 How to Visit: A Bergen County Holiday Drive

Whether you’re looking for a quick drive-thru experience or a place to take the ultimate holiday selfie, Santa Lane is the perfect low-stress destination.

  • Location: Mountain Avenue, Township of Washington, NJ (Bergen County).

  • When to Go: The inflatables are usually up throughout the month of December. Evening is the best time to see them fully illuminated.

  • Pro-Tip: Expect a bit of a “rubbernecking” delay! On weekends, the street becomes a popular slow-crawl attraction. Be sure to dim your headlights and watch for families walking the sidewalks to count the Santas.

📸 A Photographer’s Dream

Families from all over North Jersey are making the trip to “Santa Lane” to participate in the local tradition of counting the Santas. Kids love sticking their heads out of sunroofs to see the towering figures, and the bright red colors make for a perfect backdrop for holiday cards.

Local Insight: “It’s not just about the decorations; it’s about the community spirit,” says one resident. “Seeing the joy on the kids’ faces as they drive through makes the electric bill worth it!”
