Ridgewood NJ, in recent weeks, New Jersey schools and law enforcement have been grappling with a wave of school shooting threats circulating on social media platforms like TikTok, Snapchat, and Facebook. This alarming trend, which mirrors incidents nationwide, has led to police investigations, lockdowns, and multiple student arrests, including that of a 10-year-old in South Jersey. The Ridgewood blog has reported lockdowns in Westwood , Bloomfield and Waldwick.
Authorities across the state, in counties such as Bergen, Camden, Gloucester, Monmouth, Passaic, Ocean, and Somerset, have responded to threatening posts shared within school communities. Although none of these threats have been deemed credible, the surge in reports comes in the wake of a tragic school shooting in Georgia on September 4 that claimed four lives, raising concerns about potential copycat incidents.
Just last week, two South Jersey school districts shut down, and three teenage students were arrested after a TikTok post threatened shootings at five different districts. Similarly, Hackensack police arrested a juvenile on September 14 for making threats against several school buildings via social media.
Investigations into online threats have also been launched in Hazlet, Ringwood, and Manchester Township. While Manchester Police clarified that the posts were not directed at their district, the spread of these messages caused alarm among local students, one of whom re-posted it out of concern.
Authorities are urging the public to refrain from sharing unverified posts that could cause panic. “We are experiencing a nationwide trend of vague, unsubstantiated school threats being shared on TikTok and Snapchat,” said local law enforcement, emphasizing the importance of not perpetuating such content.
Disturbingly, some of these threats have been traced to very young students. On Wednesday, September 18, a 10-year-old from Gloucester County was identified as the source of a “disturbing” video involving a Franklin Township school. The child was quickly removed from school and taken to police headquarters, where they now face charges for causing a false public alarm.
As these threats continue to spread, officials stress the need for vigilance while working to ensure the safety of New Jersey’s schools.

Keep publicizing all of the perps so you can encourage even more of this and maybe even the real thing for that “burst of glory.”
Then you can make a lot of money by publishing endless articles about the perps and ask the questions “why?” and “how can we stop this from happening?”
Then go look in the mirror. The answer awaits.
Sound advice, thanks, but that’s been the unstated policy for some time now.
