On December 30, 2025, emergency crews rushed to Broadway near Florence Place following reports of a three-car crash with a person down in the roadway. The incident highlights ongoing safety concerns on the high-traffic corridor connecting Elmwood Park and Fair Lawn.

🚨 Pedestrian Rushed to Trauma Center

The early afternoon crash resulted in one individual—reportedly a pedestrian—sustaining serious, life-threatening injuries. Elmwood Park EMS and paramedics worked quickly to stabilize the victim at the scene before transport.

  • Medical Transport: The victim was rushed via ambulance to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson, the region’s primary Level 1 Trauma Center.

  • Vehicle Damage: Three vehicles were involved in the collision. The impact was severe enough that all three cars were deemed undrivable and had to be removed by heavy-duty tow trucks.

🚧 Major Traffic Delays on Broadway

Following the crash, Elmwood Park Police took immediate action to secure the site for investigators, leading to significant delays:

  • Road Closure: All westbound lanes of Broadway were temporarily shut down near Florence Place.

  • Commuter Impact: Traffic was diverted into local residential side streets, causing a “rubbernecking” backup that extended toward the Route 4 and Route 20 interchanges.

  • Scene Clearance: Crews worked for several hours to clear debris and fluid spills from the roadway before reopening the lanes to the public late Tuesday afternoon.

🔍 Investigation into Broadway Safety

While the cause of the crash is still being determined by the Elmwood Park Police Department, the intersection of Broadway and Florence Place has long been a point of concern for local residents due to high speeds and heavy pedestrian foot traffic near local businesses.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the injured pedestrian or the drivers involved. Investigators are currently looking into whether distracted driving or a mechanical failure played a role in the three-vehicle pileup.
