Genny Allard Takes First Place in Gael Force Irish Open Water Challenge

Ridgewood, NJ – The Ridgewood Historical Society is celebrating a monumental achievement by one of its own! Genny Allard, Co-President of the Society, has brought home the gold, securing first place in her age group at the prestigious Gael Force Irish swimming competition in Ireland.
This is no ordinary race. The Gael Force events are a major series of open water races held in some of Ireland’s most stunning and challenging natural locations, including the iconic River Shannon and the dramatically beautiful Killary Fjord. The competition attracts experienced swimmers from around the world to test their endurance against the rugged Irish coastline.
An Ironman Distance Swim in “Frigid, Inky Expanse”
Genny’s victory came after she plunged into the cold, deep waters of the Killary Fjord in Connemara on Saturday, September 13th. She described the challenging experience in her own words:
“I plunged into the frigid, inky expanse of the Killary fjord in Connemara, Ireland. The water was a profound mirror to the emerald slopes that tumbled sharply toward the surface… This full Ironman distance swim offered a profound test of endurance against one of Ireland’s most spectacular natural backdrops. After the demanding effort, I emerged having conquered the distance and, triumphantly, secured 1st place in my age group.”
The grueling course was a 3.9K (2.4-mile) looped swim, requiring powerful strokes and intense focus to navigate the deep, dark water surrounded by unspoiled wilderness.
