Paramus NJ, Shoppers were left scrambling on Tuesday afternoon as the popular Westfield Garden State Plaza in Paramus abruptly closed its doors. The reason? A major water issue that has forced the mall to shut down for the rest of the evening.
What We Know: A Conflicting Story
While Paramus Mayor Chris DiPiazza initially announced on Facebook that the closure was due to a “water main break,” the situation was later clarified. Debra Vial of Veolia, the water company on site, stated that the issue appears to be an “internal plumbing issue” within the building itself.
Veolia crews were on the scene to turn off the water to the entire mall, allowing for repairs to begin.
However, in an official statement, the mall’s Senior General Manager, Wesley Rebisz, referred to the issue as a “water main break in the north parking lot near Nordstrom.” Regardless of the exact cause, the outcome is the same: the mall is closed.
When Will the Mall Reopen?
According to Rebisz, the center will reopen on Wednesday, September 24, at 10:00 a.m. The mall’s management thanked both its tenants and guests for their cooperation during the unexpected closure.
For those planning to visit the Garden State Plaza, it’s a good idea to check for updates before you head out, but for now, the mall is set to resume normal hours on Wednesday morning.
