Minneapolis MN, A massive data leak has sent shockwaves through Minnesota politics. Independent journalist Cam Higby has reportedly infiltrated a series of highly sophisticated, encrypted Signal chat groups used to monitor and obstruct federal ICE agents.

The findings, now being dubbed “SignalGate,” suggest a deep web of involvement reaching the highest levels of the Minnesota state government, bolstered by foreign funding and members of the press.

Inside the “Insurrection”: How the Chats Operate

The organization revealed in these leaks is far from amateur. The groups are organized geographically—divided by Minneapolis City Council districts and suburban zones like St. Paul and Bloomington.

To evade law enforcement, the groups utilize Signal’s most secure features:

  • Daily Resets: New chats are created every 24 hours; the previous day’s history is purged.

  • Security Protocols: “No screenshot” functions are enabled, requiring external devices to record activity.

  • Role-Based Emojis: Members use specific emojis next to their usernames to denote their “shift” roles, such as patrol, dispatch, or logistics.

The Money Trail: Foreign Funding & “Tending the Soil”

A public spreadsheet of over 4,000 donors has been released by Data Republican, who has reportedly turned over unredacted files to the FBI.

A central figure in the funding appears to be Jonny Soppotiuk, a Canadian community organizer and leader at the crowdfunding site Chuffed. Soppotiuk reportedly made the first donation to the “Stand with Minnesota” campaign, which is managed by the organization Tending the Soil. This revelation has raised immediate concerns regarding foreign interference in domestic law enforcement activities.

Politicians and Journalists Implicated

The list of alleged participants reads like a “Who’s Who” of Minnesota leadership. While some involvement is confirmed by self-admission, others are currently identified via matching usernames and leadership roles.

Confirmed Involvement:

  • State Rep. Brad Tabke: Allegedly coordinates the Scott County ICE Watch, even providing his personal cell phone number to recruits for patrol and dispatch shifts.

  • State Rep. Alex Falconer: Publicly admitted to leading a “rapid response network” and encouraged supporters at campaign stops to join the Signal groups.

High-Profile Allegations:

  • Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan: Investigators are scrutinizing the username “Flan Southside.” While not 100% confirmed, circumstantial evidence points toward the Lieutenant Governor, who recently made headlines by telling activists to “put their bodies on the line.”

  • Aurin Chowdhury: A Minneapolis City Council Member whose name matches an admin in the group.

  • The Press: Journalists from NPR and Minnesota Public Radio (MPR), including Ben Hovland and Sergio Martinez-Beltrán, were allegedly listed in the chats with their professional titles.

The Nicollet Avenue Mystery

The investigation took a dark turn following the shooting of Alex Pretti at 2614 Nicollet. The address is an 1,100-square-foot building that officially houses eight businesses but has a staggering 184 National Provider Identifier (NPI) numbers registered to it.

Critics argue this “preposterous” density of practitioners suggests a massive front for fraud—one that the Walz administration may be using the “anti-ICE” unrest to distract from.

“It is obvious that a non-trivial number of judges and elected officials are affiliated with this movement.” — Streiff, Political Analyst
