RIDGEWOOD, NJ – A quiet Wednesday morning in the Village was interrupted by a loud collision involving a local commuter and a federal delivery vehicle. On December 17, 2025, a silver Toyota Camry slammed into the back of a parked United States Postal Service (USPS) delivery van, leaving both vehicles with extensive damage.

The accident occurred in the westbound lane of East Ridgewood Avenue, specifically near the intersection of Southern Parkway, a busy corridor for those heading toward the center of town.

The Details of the Collision

According to reports from the scene, the silver 4-door Toyota Camry was traveling westbound when it struck the rear of the USPS van. Fortunately, the mail carrier was not inside the vehicle at the time; the van was unoccupied and parked along the side of the road for deliveries.

Injuries and Medical Response:

  • Driver Status: The driver of the Toyota Camry sustained a non-life-threatening hand injury during the impact.

  • Emergency Transport: Ridgewood FD/EMS arrived promptly, treating the driver on-site before transporting them via ambulance to The Valley Hospital for further evaluation.

  • No Other Injuries: Because the postal van was empty, no other injuries were reported

Emergency Response and Traffic Delays

The crash caused immediate congestion along East Ridgewood Avenue as first responders worked to clear the wreckage.

The Ridgewood Police Department’s Patrol Division managed traffic control, diverting vehicles away from the westbound lane while an investigation into the cause of the crash was launched. Members of the Ridgewood Professional Firefighters FMBA Local 47 were also on hand to ensure the scene was safe and to assist with the cleanup of debris.

Both the Camry and the USPS van sustained heavy structural damage and had to be removed from the scene by separate flatbed tow trucks.

A Reminder for Village Motorists

While the exact cause of the collision remains under investigation by the Ridgewood PD, the incident serves as a reminder for drivers to stay vigilant on residential and commercial streets where delivery vehicles frequently stop.

East Ridgewood Avenue is a primary artery through the Village, and officials encourage motorists to maintain safe speeds and minimize distractions, especially during the busy holiday delivery season.
