Tenafly NJ, Last month, the teaching certificate of Christopher R. Icochea was revoked due to his involvement in violent acts in Bergen County a year prior. According to the June 2024 Order of Revocation from the state, the State Board of Examiners made this decision on May 23, 2024, following Icochea’s guilty plea to aggravated assault in June 2023. The revocation became final on June 27, 2024.

Details of the Incident and Legal Proceedings

The order from the State Board of Examiners outlines the details of Icochea’s actions. It states, “It is alleged that Icochea purposely backed his vehicle into another vehicle, drove forward to hit a separate vehicle, and used a hammer to hit an individual on the head. On June 13, 2023, Icochea pled guilty to Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon (3rd degree).”

Two weeks after his plea, Icochea received a sentence that included three years of non-custodial probation, 10 days of jail time credit, substance abuse and psychological evaluation, and an order of no contact with the victims. As a result of his conviction, Icochea is disqualified from employment in any public school.

Lack of Dispute from Icochea

The order indicates that Icochea was given several opportunities to contest the impending revocation of his teaching certificate, but he chose not to do so.

Additional Information from Court Records

Further details were provided in an article on NJ.com. Court records from Superior Court in Bergen County reveal that the attack occurred on April 22, 2023. These records also show that Icochea was ordered in family court to have no contact with the three victims and was barred from a home in Bergenfield. Additionally, Icochea was transported on May 6, 2024, from Bergen County Jail to a facility for individuals struggling with addiction or mental health issues.
