Statewide Cellphone crackdown starts Tuesday

Cellphone yakkers and texters, beware!
Starting on Tuesday, hundreds of New Jersey police departments will be focusing on distracted-driving in a crackdown that is likely to yield more cellphone and texting tickets than have the token campaigns of the past.
The reason: For the first time, the state is putting federal money into this offensive, which means police in 60 communities, including Englewood Cliffs, Hillsdale, Paramus, Ramsey, Hawthorne and West Milford, will each be earning overtime pay to conduct distracted driving patrols. In the past, this strategy has been confined only to seatbelt and drunken-driving enforcement.
“But this year, the feds are encouraging the states to do more,” said Gary Poedubicky, acting director of the state Division of Highway Traffic Safety. “We don’t have enough to fund every town, but it’s a start.”

Does that include Ridgewood police?
A guy coming toward me tonight in his Jeep…all over the road.
As we got closer I thought he was talking on his cell. Wrong.
He was digging his finger up his nose.
How do we regulate that kind of vehicular behavior….?
Well it sounds like we need to set up a picking

Picking patrol *
I was walking with my 3 year old daughter yesterday. We approached an intersection where we had the right of way. A mom in a greyish Toyota Sienna came barreling down the cross street and when I checked to see if she saw us and was going to stop for us, I saw her head looking down at her left hand with a cell phone in it. Texting. I pulled my daughter back to the curb, and yelled “Get off the phone” to the soccer mom, who would only meet my gaze for a half second before looking away. So I repeated myself. As she made her left, I could see she was still looking at the phone.
That woman is going to kill a little kid someday, yet I bet she screams loudest at the M.A.D.D. rally.
Typical Ridgewood self centered MILF.
She was not a MILF. Unless the “F” in your acronym stands for fine.
I drove up Ridgewood Ave last week, in the heart of the CBD…two different lunkheads on foot tried to cross the road in between parked cars in front of the movie theatre.
I’m sorry but if you’re not in btwn the painted crosswalk then pedestrians should be ticketed for JAYWALKING.
They can’t be ticketed for jaywalking unless they walk from curb to curb diagonally in mid block.
