Glen Rock NJ, a sharp-eyed patrol supervisor in Glen Rock, NJ, helped crack a regional hit-and-run case on Friday evening. A bright blue coupe, allegedly involved in a crash in Lodi earlier that day, was discovered steaming and damaged near the Hawthorne border.

The discovery, made on January 9, 2026, highlights the critical role of inter-agency cooperation in tracking down drivers who flee the scene of an accident.

The Discovery: A Trail of Steam

Just after 6:15 PM, a supervisor with the Glen Rock Police Motor Patrol Division spotted a suspicious vehicle parked on a residential street near the border of Glen Rock and Hawthorne.

The vehicle—a bright blue 2-door coupe—matched the description of a car wanted by the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office in connection with an earlier collision in Lodi. Upon closer inspection, the officer noted:

  • Fresh Impact Damage: The front end showed significant damage consistent with a recent crash.

  • Mechanical Distress: The car was still emitting steam, suggesting a punctured radiator or a failing cooling system from the impact.

Multi-Town Coordination

Knowing the vehicle was linked to a crime, the Glen Rock supervisor secured the area with the assistance of the Hawthorne Police Department.

The scene was held until an officer from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department arrived to take over the investigation. The Sheriff’s officer reportedly interviewed the owner and a potential operator of the vehicle on the spot.

What’s Next for the Driver?

While authorities have not yet confirmed the identity of the driver or the specific charges filed, fleeing the scene of an accident in New Jersey carries heavy penalties. Under state law (N.J.S.A. 39:4-129), a “Hit and Run” conviction can lead to:

  • Substantial fines and insurance surcharges.

  • Mandatory driver’s license suspension.

  • Potential jail time, especially if injuries were involved in the initial Lodi crash.

The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office is currently leading the investigation into the Lodi incident.
