The chase began when Paramus police officers confronted a 17-year-old and two other teens, ages 15 and 16, trying to steal a car on Lawrence Drive around 11:30 p.m. The teens sped off, in a Hyundai Tucson that had been reported stolen in Irvington earlier that day, with Paramus Officer Slavko Bajovic on their tail.

The officer cornered the teens at a dead-end street, but the teens escaped by ramming the officers car then speeding south on Farview Avenue. When the teens finally crashed into the Lexus, injuring two women, ages 56 and 22, who were hospitalized with minor injuries ,they jumped out of the car and tried to make a run for it., but were soon captured and arrested by police .

According to police the 17-year-old was charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, attempted auto theft, stolen vehicle possession, and eluding, police said. Both younger teens were charged with joyriding and the 16-year-old also received charges of resisting arrest and attempted theft auto.

The 17-year-old was remanded to the Bergen County Juvenile Detention Center, and the two others were taken back to their homes in Newark, when family members were unable to pick them up from police headquarters.

  1. Steal a car, get caught, get driven home.

    1. How about putting the parents in jail?

  4. This is unfortunately an organized plan. The car theft business has figured out that using teens keeps them all out of jail.

  5. Paramus is a mess. Over building, way too many people. Can’t even move around. So much traffic, the noise, yuck.

    1. Totally agree. They just keep allowing overdevelopment and construction of larger and taller homes and buildings. Traveling on Rte 17 alone is a nightmare, never mind most of the major side streets. Decades ago Paramus was a really nice town. No more. What a shame. Nothing to be proud of in this town.

    2. And they are starting to encroach into Ridgewood. CVS and 7-11 to be permitted at the corner of E. Ridgewood Ave and Paramus Road should bring lots of traffic, dumpsters, garbage, rodents, etc. Can’t wait for see the number 7-11 coffee cups and wrappers to be floating down the Saddle River.

    3. You guys aren’t being very “business-friendly.”

      1. Paramus already has too many businesses.
