Hasbrouck Heights NJ, a rollover crash on Route 17 North across from the Holiday Inn left two teenagers injured and sent local emergency responders into action Thursday night, Sept. 19, according to authorities.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m., just north of Franklin Avenue. Firefighters, EMS crews, and police officers rushed to the scene after reports of a vehicle rollover with possible ejections. When responders arrived, they found the car on its side, and both occupants—teenagers—had already exited the vehicle, contrary to initial reports of entrapment, said Hasbrouck Heights Police Lt. John Behr.
The Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department worked alongside EMS to stabilize the vehicle and assist the injured. Both teens were transported to Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) with non-life-threatening injuries. HUMC ALS and Holy Name BLS units responded to the scene, providing emergency medical care.
The teenage driver, who has not been identified, was cited for reckless driving in connection with the crash, according to Behr. The vehicle had flipped after losing control, though the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.
For about an hour, the northbound lanes of Route 17 were closed as emergency crews worked, with assistance from the Wood-Ridge Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office.
Both teens are expected to recover fully.
