Trenton NJ, Senator Michael Doherty released the following statement in response to the blatant failures of the Murphy administration as it neglected to adequately prepare for the reopening of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) that had been shut down since March due the COVID-19 lockdown:

“After a four-month lockdown, the MVC that New Jerseyans returned to was an utter nightmare. Long lines wrapped around the agencies, negatively impacting those waiting in the heat and humidity as well as the communities surrounding the centers. Many residents were turned away without any help or guidance. The failure to properly plan for this reopening is an absolute disgrace.

“With residents facing another day of long lines in the summer sun, I urge Governor Murphy to stop blaming residents for his administration’s failures and to take full responsibility for this mess.

“All New Jerseyans want to do is abide by the rules of the road and get their paperwork up to date. After four months of being forced to stay home, opening state agencies efficiently and effectively is the least we can do.”

  1. Our second try at license renewal.
We were the oldest people around (80’s). Most of those on line were youngsters who queued up at 4AM. We got to Oakland at 8AM. Raining hard, lines around the building, social distancing not very good. We left for a future try.
Seems that new drivers are gettin preferential treatment. Is this a political ploy for voting eligibility? September expirations have not yet been extended.
Anyway, I had a thought. Seems that one has to go in person if your photo is more than 4 years old. So, how come a Passport photo is good for 10 years and one only needs to go to any passport photo center, take 2 photos and send it off the US Passport service with copies of some required documents, and you’re in. Also the federal requirement for the new high level security license has been waived until October of 2021. How about a senior day only.
Murphy, talk to your MVC commissioner and get this fixed.
