>the Citizens Safety Advisory Committee (whatever that is)?

>I live on a corner. I do not have any obstruction that blocks the view of the corner. Nor have I received a summons. However, I would strongly oppose the legal right of ANYONE to make changes to MY property, without my consent. If it is a matter of trimming an overgrown bush, that is one thing. But, more permanent structures, such as walls or fences, that have existed for years is another. Can anyone provide the wording of ordinance that exists covering this issue? Also, I would like to know names of the the members of the Citizens Safety Advisory Committee (whatever that is). Where can they be found? It is probably the same people who stand up at EVERY Village Council meeting and turn the municipal government process into something akin to a 4-hour root canal procedure (sit through one and see what I mean). How many of these summonses have been issued, anyway? There can’t be more than 4 or 5 properties in town, where this is a valid concern. Yet, we have the Police Dept and Village Engineering Division surveying the entire town about this. How many man-hours (read tax-payer dollars) have been spent on this? Give me a freakin’ break!!! If the traffic aound my property is any indication, I suggest that any accidents contributing to the “sudden alarm” over this issue have more to do with careless drivers that obstructed intersections.

The Citizens Safety Advisory Committee propably has good intentions. But, they seem to taking an Orwellian approach that I oppose in principle. Young children from around the neigborhood play in our yard. Why doesn’t the Citizens Safety Advisory Committee spend their time focusing on the biggest safety hazard in Ridgewood…bad, careless and reckless drivers. Countless teenagers, soccer moms and POLICEMEN talk on their cell phones as they drive obvliviously through town every day. Stop signs are non-existent as they roll right through them. Is there any street in town with a speed limit over 25MPH? Drivers routinely fly down some streets at speeds in excess of 40MPH. How about enforcing our existing traffic laws?? Why don’t we all start focusing on the REAL issues in this town and stop meddling, based on the interests of a few? Get a grip Ridgewood!!!

  1. >Your right the real issue is that the police do not enforce the speeding laws, or the laws for not yeilding to a pedestrian. The NJ laws are tough for not yeilding to pedestrians – 5 points – but they are of no use here because the police do not seem to want to enforce traffic laws and the judges are too easy on the ones that are caught. I guess speed enforcement is below them they instead want to bust teenagers for smoking pot behind starbucks. Kids have been smoking pot since the beginning of time that is not going to stop and they are not hurting anyone but themselves – that is a bad parenting issue not a police priority. Speeders and wreckless drivers put everyone at risk and destroy a walking town because everyone is too afraid to walk but that doesn’t seem to be a priority for the police. The Ridgewood Police will be having an efficiency review for the first time ever in the history of Ridgewood I hope everyone in the village speaks up. As for the citzens safety committe they meet the last thursday of every month – they are not much help. If you go to a meeting and complain or have a suggestion chris the village engineer and Betty Weist shut you down pretty quick. Making it apparent that by attending you just wasted your time. This is screwed up Ridgewood politics for you – Bully the people who fix up their properties and don’t do anything to the ones that are full of illegal aliens and a fire trap. C’est La Vie

  2. >Sorry… missed something there… which properties are full of illegal aliens and are fire traps? Not to name them… fine. But this goes on in Ridgewood? legit question, so dont bite my head off.

  3. >I am not the original poster, but I live close to a house which is owned and rented out by a local realtor. The house was officially rented to a couple of guys, but was also lived in by a large group of day laborers, who I learned were illegals. Several neighbors got pretty irate due to the shabby upkeep of the house (grass never cut, litter thrown around, etc), and worst of all, the hissing and whistling by these guys who sat on the porch whenever an attractive female walked past. The owner was advised and although she disputed the allegations, the guys moved out soon afterwards. I suspect that they feared being deported after finding out that they had probably come to the attention of the authorities. The issues were reported to the Police, Building Department, etc. From what we were told, taking action is difficult. If an official goes to the house, he can easily be told that all these guys you see here don’t live here. They are just visiting, and just like any other household, it’s perfectly acceptible to have the occasional overnight guest. In other words, prove it. prove that they “live” here. Unless you are going to take ridiculous measures and have the place staked out, it’s an impossible situation.

So, to answer your question, yes, there are illegals living in the area. Who do you think does your landscaping? Who do you think works in all the kitchens in our local restaurants? The problem is, we want our services cheap, but we don’t like it when “they” live by us.

  4. >the cops should go arter the school buses they fly around town like they own the town.they never go 25.so go after them first.
