Mahwah NJ, A Rockland County man is back in custody after a series of legal run-ins in Mahwah that have local authorities doing a double-take. For the third time in just 90 days, the same individual has been intercepted by Mahwah police and charged with cocaine possession.

The latest arrest occurred in the early hours of Friday morning, turning a routine traffic stop into a major multi-charge booking.

The Friday Morning Stop: From Fake Names to Field Tests

Around 2:11 a.m. on Friday, Officers Nicole Garrity and John Sedlmeir were patrolling Ramapo Valley Road when they observed a vehicle failing to maintain its lane.

Upon pulling the vehicle over, the situation quickly escalated:

  • The Smells of Impairment: Officers detected the odor of alcohol and observed signs of intoxication.

  • The Identity Shuffle: The driver initially claimed he had no ID, then allegedly provided officers with a fake name to avoid detection.

  • The Sobriety Test: After failing field sobriety tests, the driver was taken into custody.

The Charges: Drugs, Paraphernalia, and a Suspended License

The driver was identified as 49-year-old Alberto Feliciano of Suffern, NY. Following his arrest for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), a search of his person and his vehicle revealed:

  1. Suspected Cocaine: Found both on Feliciano and inside the car.

  2. Drug Paraphernalia: Items used for drug consumption.

  3. Hindering Apprehension: Due to providing false information to officers.

  4. Suspended License: Feliciano was allegedly operating the vehicle without legal driving privileges.

Three Months, Three Arrests: A Pattern in Mahwah

The most startling discovery for Mahwah investigators was the timeline. Records revealed that this was Feliciano’s third arrest for cocaine possession in Mahwah since November. Despite the previous charges, the 49-year-old continued to cross the state line from New York into Bergen County, only to be apprehended on the same stretch of road by the same department.

Current Status: Feliciano was transported to the Bergen County Jail, where he currently awaits a hearing in Superior Court.

Mahwah Police Vigilance on Ramapo Valley Road

This arrest highlights the high level of vigilance by the Mahwah Police Department on major thoroughfares. Ramapo Valley Road is a primary artery for those traveling between Rockland County and North Jersey, making it a focal point for DWI and narcotics interdiction.
